Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the compounds found in hemp and cannabis plants. Unlike THC, CBD does not have the same psychoactive effects on the person consuming it.
How Does CBD Work
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) controls and regulates many essential functions of the human body. CBD does not target the CB1 and CB2 receptors like THC, but it indirectly influences them.
Is CBD Safe?
To date there is no record of anyone dying due to the use of CBD. From what we know it’s impossible to overdose on it. However, caution should always be top of mind when using any CBD or THC product. Speak with your doctor to learn about the prescription drugs you’re taking which may be impacted by its use.
How is CBD Consumed?
CBD can be consumed in the exact same ways THC is consumed; including inhalation, ingestion, or application.
- Inhalation methods: Smoking and vaping
- Ingestion methods: Edibles (gummies, brownies, etc.), tinctures, oral sprays, and drinkables (sodas, seltzers, flavor packets)
- Application methods: Salves, lotions, oils, and external sprays
🌱 DID YOU KNOW?
Hemp has been used for over 10,000 years as food, medicine, and to make various goods including clothing, rope, and paper.
How Does CBD Make You Feel?
Since CBD lacks the “head high” associated with THC, many people who use it report feeling calm, very relaxed, and sometimes sleepy depending on the dose. CBD is said to have a “body high”.
Is CBD Legal?
In 2018 the Hemp Bill legalized industrial hemp that has a THC concentration of no more than 0.3%, thusly hemp was removed from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. Hemp-derived CBD is legal in all 50 states. However, there are varying legal ages to consume CBD because some of the compound is still derived from cannabis. In New York the minimum legal age to purchase and consume hemp-derived CBD is 18, while 21 is the minimum legal age to purchase and consume cannabis-derived CBD; with the exception of a small group of younger medical patients whose parents or guardians can purchase it with a physician’s recommendation.
Where Can I Buy CBD?
CBD can be purchased in a wide range of ways; in various retail outlets as well as online. Of course dispensaries including The Garden Club carry select CBD products too. However, it is important to be a discerning consumer. Always ask for, or look for a certificate of analysis (COA) to learn more about the product you’re buying.
